The company
06What is GStar Technologies?#
GStar Technologies is a software development centre in Kathmandu, Nepal, building web and mobile products for clients in Asia, Australia, Europe and the United States. GStar Technologies is part of the GStar Group of Companies and was previously named JapNep.
Is GStar Technologies the same company as JapNep?#
Yes. JapNep was renamed GStar Technologies. The team, the Kathmandu engineering office and the published client work are unchanged — the name changed, the company did not. Case studies delivered under the JapNep name are still published under GStar Technologies.
Where is GStar Technologies located?#
GStar Technologies has two offices. Engineering sits in Kathmandu, Nepal, where design, development, QA and support share one room. The Hamamatsu office in Shizuoka, Japan is the client-facing side, run by Country Manager Manish Ghimire.
What time zones does GStar Technologies work across?#
Kathmandu is UTC+5:45 and Hamamatsu is UTC+9, so the two offices overlap almost entirely. That working day reaches Japan, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and South Asia. Published case studies so far are in Japan and Nepal.
Does GStar Technologies work in Japanese?#
Yes. Meetings in Japan happen in Japanese, in Japanese business hours, with Country Manager Manish Ghimire in Hamamatsu. A full-time Language Coordinator sits between the two offices, because the usual failure of offshore delivery is a requirement that meant two different things in two languages.
How big is the GStar Technologies team?#
GStar Technologies names its full team — leadership and engineers — on its About page, working across two countries from the Kathmandu and Hamamatsu offices. Six client projects are cleared for publication as case studies, each one stating what the team did and did not do.
Services and engagements
04What services does GStar Technologies offer?#
GStar Technologies offers five services: web and UI/UX design, website development, e-commerce, mobile app development, and hosting and maintenance. Each is sold as a defined scope with named deliverables rather than as a list of technologies.
What engagement models does GStar Technologies offer?#
Four arrangements: Discovery, Project delivery, Dedicated team, and Hosting and maintenance. Which one fits depends on how well defined the work is and whether it ends. Scope, responsibilities and handover are agreed in writing before any work starts.
What is a Discovery engagement?#
Discovery is a short paid engagement that turns a problem into a specification and a number before anyone commits to building it. It delivers agreed requirements, an architecture and integration plan, prototype screens where useful, and a scoped estimate — yours to keep, whoever builds it.
Can GStar Technologies maintain a system it did not build?#
Yes. Hosting and maintenance covers systems already live, whether or not GStar Technologies built them, and includes monitored hosting, security patching, backups with a documented restore procedure, and a named contact. A codebase that cannot responsibly be taken on is declined rather than accepted quietly.
How a project runs
06What is the GStar Technologies development process?#
Seven stages, the same on every project: requirements, system analysis, prototype design, development, quality control, deployment, and support and maintenance. The seventh stage loops back to the first, because support is what feeds the next build rather than an afterthought.
Who owns the source code GStar Technologies writes?#
The client receives the full source, the build pipeline and the documentation needed to run it without GStar Technologies. Repository access starts at the first commit, not at handover. Third-party licences are listed in the handover; transfer of ownership is set out in the agreement.
How does GStar Technologies test what it builds?#
Acceptance criteria are written and agreed before development starts. Every release is tested against them by a QA lead who did not write the code: functional testing on real devices, a performance pass and an accessibility pass. A defect against those criteria is fixed inside the project, not re-quoted.
How are scope changes handled?#
Anything outside the agreed scope is assessed in writing first — what it costs, what it delays, what it affects — and is not built until the client approves it. The scope document is versioned, so it stays visible what changed, when, and who asked for it.
What support does GStar Technologies provide after launch?#
Support is stage seven of the same seven-stage process, handled by the same people who built the system. Coverage hours and response targets are agreed before release, not negotiated after something breaks. Handover documentation is written so an in-house team can take it on instead.
Does GStar Technologies publish measured results for its projects?#
Not yet, and the case studies say so on the page rather than omitting the section. Every published claim is labelled with its basis: delivered work that is publicly checkable, figures the client stated, or instrumented measurements. No measured before-and-after has been agreed with a client to date.
Working with us
03How do I start a project with GStar Technologies?#
Send a short brief: the problem, who it is for, and any date or budget range. Three paragraphs is enough — a full specification is not required. GStar Technologies replies within two business days, then holds one requirements call in English or Japanese.
How quickly does GStar Technologies reply to an enquiry?#
Within two business days, from someone who read the enquiry. Business days exclude public holidays in Nepal and Japan, which do not fall on the same dates; if a holiday will push the reply past that, the acknowledgement says so.
What does GStar Technologies provide before a contract is signed?#
A written approach and estimate covering scope, deliverables, schedule and price, in a document that can be read at your own pace and taken to your own people. There is no obligation to proceed after receiving it.
